Side Splitting Good times

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

Forbidden Broadway is probably the funniest thing that theater patrons could ever experience and sadly it’s closing on January 18. Basically it’s a pop cultural parody show that focuses specifically on the current crop of Broadway shows so ever year it’s fresh and new. The last time I saw it they had “Elphaba” from Wicked screaming off of a chair “Now I am defying Chenoweth,” to the song “Defying Gravity” and mocked Hugh Jackman for turning the 2005 Tony Awards into his own personal cabaret act (this was after the year before playing him up as the “The Boy who’s not Gay” after his Tony Award winner turn in The Boy From Oz”.)

So if you have the change check out the show or buy the CDs before it’s too late.

lack of blogs this week

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

You would think that Thanksgiving weekend would have at least one good thing to watch on TV. Well if you thought that, as I did, you would be dead wrong. There is a reason that I have not been writing reviews this past week (or half a week) but it is not that I haven’t been around. No, I didn’t go away, there’s just nothing to talk about. I was supposed to be a Tina Turner Concert review late Wednesday or early Thursday but, due to the incompetence of the New Jersey Transit system, I never made it to the show and thus, no review.

So that’s where I have been.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

This is actually my favorite version of the Dickens tale. I know it sounds corny but the acting is exquisite by the humans and who doesn’t love The Muppets?

Michael Caine (whose performance is Oscar worthy) plays miserly Scrooge with Kermit as the long-suffering but ever-hopeful employee Bob Cratchit. Miss Piggy plays Cratchit’s wife and miniature pigs play their daughters with Robin the tadpole as the famous Tiny Tim )(a host of other Muppets round out the cast with the only other humans being Scrooge’s family and girlfriend.)

The Great Gonzo takes over the story telling for Charles Dickens and is aided by Rizzo the rat and its upbeat nature makes it a family drama that adults and children alike can enjoy whereas the original story is a bit too somber for kids.

So I saw Twilight

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

I was not a reader of the books and kinda had no interest in seeing the movie but my best friend read the books (and for some reason still wanted to see the movie, which baffles me) and I didn’t want her to have to go the movies alone.

She would’ve gone alone last weekend but I felt since she had to deal with seeing her self-destructive ex boyfriend because of me (long story) and since she’s been working her tush off for little pay at Macy’s, not to mention she might have to go alone to the Thanksgiving Parade this year because she wants to go and her family doesn’t want to and they are all equally stubborn, it was the least I could do to stay a good friend.

The dialog is juvenile and at times the characters just stare at each other like morons. Sure it’s a great romance if you are a tween but for me it was less than enthralling.

Things I thought about while watching the AMA Awards

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

1-      The New Kids on the Block have become old guys

2-      Kanye West needs to be muzzled; not for his talking I just hate his singing.

3-      Jimmy Kimmel stopped being funny after his f*cking Ben Affleck video (but then again how can you top that)

4-      Taylor Swift definitely made Joe Jonas know how hurt she was

5-      Carrie Anne Inaba (host of the preshow and judge from Dancing with the Stars) has some sort of mental handicap (don’t believe me, then you didn’t see her)

And finally: 6- Justin Timberlake is the biggest star of our time and is the ultimate controller of all.

AMA

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

Tonight ABC will be airing the American Music Awards as well as the Awards’ preshow for the first time ever. The events start at 7 pm, so that means no Desperate Housewives or Brothers and Sisters. However, it is a chance to see a Jonas Brother fall off stage (at last year’s show, middle brother Joe Jonas fell through a plate glass window, tearing open his knee while wearing white pants.)

I kid that I want to see something bad happen to a Jonas Brother, I don’t want any stars to be injured actually but it is a great reminder that you should always watched live shows because you never know what will happen.

Kristy Lee Cook’s WHY WAIT

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

I am a big fan of American Idol and will admit, though she was not the strongest female vocalist, there were times that I truly enjoyed seventh place finisher of season seven, Kristy Lee Cook. For what she lacked in vocal talent, she certainly made up for in drive which is probably why she was the first member of the current crop of performers to release her Album (First runner up David Archuleta released his album November 11, and winner David Cook’s came out a week later, while K.L. Cook’s Why Wait came out over the Summer while the top ten were still on tour.)

I have to admit; the album is strong and includes her cover of God Bless the USA. While she will not be the greatest country singer to ever exist, maybe not even the greatest to come out of Idol, she certainly is enjoyable.

Pushing Daisies

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

I’m really upset, Pushing Daisies, the sci-fi romantic comedy about a pie maker who can bring the dead back to life in hopes of solving crimes, has been canceled.

I can understand the idea of being in love with your undead childhood sweetheart whom you can touch because it’ll killer her again permanently, a bit hard to relate too but the show was so interesting and different from everything else on TV. On top of that the cast of Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Kristen Chenowith, Chi McBride, Swoosie Kurtz, and Ellen Greene was phenomenal. Plus, it was narrated by Jim Dale, the same guy who narrated all seven of the Harry Potter books, and his voice makes anything sound interesting.

Steven Spinella

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

You may not recognize the name, but I’m sure you’ve seen his face recently.  The actor, whom I’ve been a fan of for years for his many roles in gay male plays and movies (gay men and their stories are my secret passion), has been popping up almost everywhere lately.

He’s been a patient both on Grey’s Anatomy and ER (tonight) and was recently the psychiatrist to Desperate Housewives resident psychopath Dave Williams (Neal McDonough ) just to name a few recent spotting.

His greatest work was, arguably, playing Prior Walter in the original stage production of Angels in America. However, as there is no video recording of this- I don’t think- the next best thing I’d recommend is renting the video (or DVD) of Love! Valour! Compassion!.

DANCING WITH THE STARS

Published by tvjunkie50 under Uncategorized Edit This

Lance Bass has made it another week on Dancing with the Stars. The former NSYNC star, who was my favorite contestant and pick to win from the moment he was announced as a cast member, actually has a chance of winning the whole thing (including a mirror ball trophy.)

This is actually really exciting, and if he wins it’ll be an upset because, even though he was my favorite, Brooke Burke seems to be the presumed winner, on top of that, Bass wasn’t getting the greatest scores in the beginning.

So, if you want to check out the finale, it’s two parts Monday and Tuesday at 8 on ABC.

Good Luck Lance.
